POSITION SUMMARY
The School of Humanities & Sciences is Stanford’s largest school, spanning the core of humanities, arts, languages and literatures, social sciences, mathematics, and physical and life sciences.
*6 month term, with potential for continuation

The Development Associate will manage and coordinate the execution of a wide variety of stewardship activities for the school’s donors, which includes compiling and organizing relevant financial information and producing annual narrative reports on the ways in which gifts are used. This could also include planning celebratory events to recognize donors.

The Development Associate will also provide fundraising support to H&S and university development staff, which could include the Associate Dean of External Relations for the school’s principal gift donors, the H&S Dean’s Office, H&S department and program chairs, H&S gift officers, and the university’s major gift officers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Carry out the stewardship strategy in adherence to the university’s minimum stewardship standards, working closely with the H&S Director of Development and Associate Dean of External Relations to align stewardship with H&S fundraising priorities and to define and determine appropriate stewardship deliverables for all donors to the school.
• Serve as a stewardship liaison to the H&S Dean’s Office, Central Stewardship, and the university’s Office of Development.
• Implement program to provide comprehensive, enhanced stewardship reporting to the school’s most important donors.
• Gather relevant information for personalized gift acknowledgement letters for donors, briefings for donor meetings and annual financial and narrative reports on the use of gift funds.
• Serve as researcher, author, and editor of donor correspondence and narrative and financial reports, and create new ideas and strategies to enhance overall stewardship reporting to donors.
• Ensure that H&S donors receive comprehensive and timely stewardship reporting on all their funds in the school, and work closely with H&S Finance to confirm that fund expenditures are in alignment with the donor’s interests and intentions.
• Work with H&S Fundraisers, the H&S Dean’s Office and the University Office of Development on the establishment of endowed professorships, providing donor background and other information as needed for university Board of Trustee meetings and other related activities.
• Enter and maintain data in the Post Grads database, ensuring the accuracy of the stewardship information.
• Manage planning and logistics for stewardship events, including invitations, guest lists, program, remarks and briefings.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years related experience or equivalent combination of skills and experience required
• Exceptional verbal, writing, research, and editorial skills, preferably demonstrated in an academic setting; ability to synthesize information and compose clear and effective prose
• Superior organizational skills; a work style that is thorough, accurate, and detail-oriented; the ability to follow through on projects with minimal supervision
• Strong customer-service focus; excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven ability to work patiently, persuasively, and effectively with a wide variety of people, including students, faculty, staff, donors and alumni
• Ability to simultaneously coordinate and manage multiple complex tasks with competing deadlines; set priorities and schedules and meet deadlines with a minimum of supervision
• Demonstrated sound judgment in situations requiring independent decision-making and in handling confidential and sensitive material
• Excellent computer skills; proficiency in using word processing, database, spreadsheets, web resources, and finance systems (experience using Stanford’s information systems such as PostGrads is a plus)
• An understanding of the entire development enterprise—particularly within an academic setting—and the ability to work within that framework - desirable
• Experience or interest in the humanities, natural sciences, and/or social sciences preferred
