Position Summary & Responsibilities The Senior Associate Director position is a unique position within the Graduate School of Business as it has a significant direct impact on both the external and internal constituents of the School. The broad scope of this position directly impacts the CMC’s success with its strategic partners and its success towards a student’s individualized recruiting experience. The position also directly impacts the experience with external constituents including employers, many of whom are GSB and Stanford University alumni. The positive experience of employers significantly impacts the School’s reputation, its image, rankings in the media, and funding. This role serves as one of three CMC senior staff members reporting to the Assistant Dean and Director of the MBA Career Management Center.
This role is responsible for developing and managing a long term Employer Relations Strategy. This strategy is focused on situating the CMC to be at the forefront of emerging industries, organizations, job opportunities and recruiting technologies to ensure the Career Management Center is known for its strong relationships and connections in areas of high growth and high student interest. The Senior Associate Director is responsible for developing and executing an outreach strategy for the CMC.
The Senior Associate Director manages a team of three to provide all corporate recruiting services, which enable companies to recruit GSB students. S/he establishes operational objectives and assignments, performance standards, and delegates assignments to subordinates and other CMC staff. These decisions have broad impact and affect the direction and capabilities of the CMC and the GSB. This roles assigns necessary resources to CMC recruiting services and programs, including on-campus recruiting (OCR) interviews, videoconference interviews, Recruiter Day (RD), Company Networking Nights (CNN), Fewer Than 300 (FT3), CMC LINK, Course Conflict resolutions, the on-line bidding system & process, GSB Resume Book, GSB Job Board, recruiting consultations and other tailored recruiting solutions. In addition, s/he is guided by and makes decisions using in-depth knowledge of University policies and short-term plans in developing the CMC Recruiter Policies, the CMC Student Recruiting Policies, and the recruiting calendar and programs each year.
The Senior Associate Director needs to have broad, advanced, deep and thorough knowledge of industries that Stanford MBAs find desirable and understand current market trends in order to strategically advise and recommend the appropriate recruiting strategy and approach for each individual company. This position leads the team to establish positive relationships with over 150 companies, hundreds of recruiters and alumni & 750 students each year, and deliver the highest level of customer service. In total, about 1,500 companies participate in some form of recruiting each year. S/he manages the office to organize and schedule over 4,000 interviews that take place each year in a compressed time frame at the GSB. The Senior Associate Director troubleshoots problems and resolves sensitive issues with both students and companies. S/he provides consultation on recruiting strategy and plans with companies. S/he conducts frequent email communications to students and recruiters. This role must independently assess needs, develop & recommend proposals to improve recruiting services to students & employers while considering the views of all constituents. S/he often identifies and resolves unique situations with substantial significance and impact on the GSB and its important constituents: recruiters and students. This position develops the recruiting program to support the academic mission of the School while balancing the needs of students and recruiters.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE • Minimum four years recruitment, HR or related business/corporate function, customer service and/or student services work • Proven ability as an influential leader, capable of motivating and developing staff professionally and effectively • Able to maturely and professionally manage and handle uncertainty, change, and conflict, as well as dissatisfied and vocal constituents. Able to lead and manage staff to also handle such people and situations • Exceptional customer service management focus and ability • Able to effectively represent the Stanford Graduate School of Business & the CMC with professionalism and confidence among students, companies, alumni, faculty and staff • Exceptional oral and written communication skills • Able to influence people, solve problems, trouble shoot, think creatively and resolve conflicts, especially in situations when constituents have competing priorities and may be under stress and upset • Experience and knowledge working with a diversity of constituents from different industries, levels, backgrounds, nationalities • Superb organizational abilities in planning & executing programs while being attentive to strategic issues. Impeccable attention and execution to detail is required • Action-oriented approach to work: strong sense of urgency; able to handle large workload, including multiple projects, issues and activities; energy to perform well in fast-paced, demanding environment • Positive can-do attitude • Able to learn quickly and desires to continually increase knowledge • Extensive experience working with MBAFocus.
