Job Overview
The Stanford Graduate School of Business Career Management Center (CMC) serves 790 MBA students, 80+ Sloan Masters students, and more than 20,000 alumni. The CMC is defined by a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, and is pursuing an ambitious strategy focused on helping our students and alumni to define unique career and life visions, and then connecting them with resources, people, organizations and opportunities that will help them to achieve those visions.

The Associate Director and Career Advisor is a critical member of the CMC team, in one of the most student-facing roles within the GSB. Key duties and responsibilities include (1) delivering personalized career advising to GSB MBA students; (2) managing the development and delivery of educational workshops, events, company site visits, treks, and other career-focused programming; and (3) employer/alumni outreach and relationship development. The position reports to the Senior Associate Director of Advising. This is an individual contributor role that does not have people management responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Advising/Coaching (50%)
• Advise hundreds of students to insure that they receive personal attention, sharing specific industry knowledge and contacts in fields of high interest to Stanford MBA students, with a focus on finance (private equity, hedge funds, investment management, venture capital) and technology
• Conduct one-on-one student advising appointments tailored to meet MBA student needs
• Provide career advising services to alumni and Sloan Masters students, as time permits
• Advise on long and short term career strategy, job search strategy, interview skills, resume development, offer decisions, compensation negotiation, and other topics
• Provide training to other CMC advisors and staff to increase overall team skill level and maximize team performance

Program Management (25%)
• Develop, manage and implement select career events, workshops and programs to educate students on all aspects of the job search process and to help students secure full-time and summer jobs with target employers
• Develop and manage new resources and programming in fields of high interest to Stanford MBA students, with a focus on finance (private equity, hedge funds, investment management, venture capital) and technology (consumer internet, digital media, mobile, software)
• Provide program management support for various CMC special projects and strategic initiatives, as assigned

Corporate Outreach and Relationship Development (25%)
• Personally contact and influence companies/alumni to participate in CMC programs and recruit at Stanford
• Leverage personal network to provide one-on-one connections between students and employers
• Develop and maintain strong network of alumni (and other) advisors to enhance outreach and advising capabilities
• Communicate timely, relevant recruiting information to students and CMC staff
• Represent the CMC at select corporate events and professional conferences, as needed


Position Requirements

• MBA or equivalent experience
• 5+ years advising/coaching experience; MBA Program experience strongly preferred
• A well-developed network of companies and individuals in industries where Stanford MBA students and alumni seek employment.  A focus on finance (private equity, hedge funds, investment management, venture capital) and technology strongly preferred but not required
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
• Well-developed sense of emotional maturity
• Exceptional level of attention to detail
• Well-versed in managing expectations and delivering beyond expectations
• Relentless focus on customer satisfaction
