The HVAC Mechanical Engineer will design, implement and oversee the installation and maintenance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Work with engineering firms to design systems for maintenance retrofit to existing HVAC systems. Obtain engineered drawings and permits for in-house renewal projects.
The HVAC Mechanical Engineer designs or oversees the design of HVAC systems to meet specifications and coordinating budgets. This person will create or revise technical drawings, troubleshoot issues on jobs and help with estimating, while focusing on energy efficiency. The Engineer also provides expertise in the fields of HVAC systems, controls technology and commissioning, promoting energy efficient operations and maintenance best practices in institutional buildings to improve system and technology performance.
Perform plans review for all new or retrofit projects for all academic campus buildings. Provide feedback on specified equipment, maintainability and conformance to standards.
Specific job responsibilities may include project management, customer/contractor communication and coordination, technical report writing, project proposal writing, project cost calculation, project quality assurance, commissioning and optimization of HVAC systems, performing building audits, designing components of new programs, researching new energy efficiency measures, and more.
Responsibilities include:

•Independently conduct on and off site evaluation of products to determine compliance with applicable standard(s)
•Develop and set up test plans
•Set up and operate standard test
•Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing.
•Within policy guidelines, identify, properly document, and recommend engineering judgments
•Coordinate with lead technicians to resolve any technical challenges.
•Lead customer/contractor meetings and resolve customer and management project issues.
•QC responsibility and follow up for all project deliverables through project closure.
•Perform HVAC system walk-through with subcontractors.
•Writing technical reports.
•Work with chief engineer to develop project proposals.
•Develop project preliminary budget.
•Develop engineering solutions and provide technical analysis.
•Commissioning and optimization of HVAC systems
•Diagnose and trouble-shoot HVAC components.
Education & Experience:
•BS in Mechanical Engineering
•EIT License required (PE license preferred)
•5 - 10 years experience
•Excellent engineering judgment to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget
•Experience with HVAC systems for institutional environments
•Additional experience in utilities including water, steam and plumbing systems
•Experience performing testing on information technology equipment, HVAC equipment, institutional machinery, laboratory equipment
•Prior project management experience is a plus
•Proficiency in technical writing and comprehensive documentation
•Working knowledge of AutoCAD, VISIO & Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required
•Hands on experience with building automation control is preferred
