DESCRIPTION:

The Associate Information Security Officer is a position located within the Stanford Information Security Office which coordinates and oversees activities that serve to protect the security, confidentiality, and integrity of Stanford's information assets.


The Associate Computer Security Officer reports directly to Stanford’s Chief Information Security Officer. The primary goal of the person in this role is to help Stanford ensure an appropriate level of information security while preserving and enhancing system usability.
This person will be an individual contributor in a team which works together to achieve this goal for the University.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as an effective security specialist and member of the Information Security Office team.
Perform system security reviews of a variety of IT systems and services and write reports and/or follow up advisory memos.
Provide expertise for system administrators and technical staff to ensure conformance to security policy standards.
Assist schools, departments, and administrative offices in applying best practices in securing the data and information systems under their control.
Participate in the development and documentation of information security standards, best practices, and guidelines.
Assist in the design of secure system and network architectures for campus.
Monitor, process, and inspect system and network data for computer and network usage policy compliance, system integrity, and incident response.
Receive reports on security breaches, take appropriate action to minimize harm and liability.
Develop and maintain a state-of-the-art awareness of information security issues, incidents, problems, utilities, legal requirements, and solutions for all major information system platforms in use at Stanford.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
Knowledge of Unix-based and Microsoft operating systems including system administration level skills.
Knowledge of networking protocols, principles, devices and services.
Programming capability.
Knowledge of authentication protocols, encryption, and other fundamental security technologies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong customer service attitude.
High level of integrity and excellent judgment concerning proprietary and privacy issues.
Awareness of legal requirements for information security a plus.
