I. Summary of Position: This is an assignment within the non-exempt employee employment status. Shift Lead will be expected to demonstrate respectful behavior, excellent customer service skills, and report to work on time according to work schedule, maintain regular attendance and follow management and supervisory directions and assignments. In addition, to maintain satisfactory performance, Shift Lead will be expected to follow safe food handling and sanitation standards and procedures, attend mandatory unit meetings and training sessions and adhere to University, R&DE, and Stanford Dining and Stanford Hospitality and Auxiliaries’ work rules, policies and procedures, core values and principles.

II. Essential Job Functions
In addition to the contingency staff essential job functions, the Shift Lead job responsibilities include, depending on the unit location:
 Open and/or close the unit;
 Supervise the weekend production, customer service, cash handling and food prepping possesses of Subway and Peets;
 Review the daily schedule, call in additional staff when needed to cover absences;
 Direct, train and oversee the work of other employees;
 Work as a checker, beverage person or runner, or combination thereof as needed during a meal service;
 Assist in daily Breakfast, Peets and Subway set-up;
 Assist in supervising the timely and correct labeling of sandwiches and other Grab and Go items;
 Assist in ensuring that the facility of Food Court area and Grab and Go display cases comply with health code and that the merchandises are displayed in a tasteful manner;
 Code invoices;
 Review daily employee hours for accuracy in KRONOS;
 Assist in the daily balancing of the cash registers and input each on correctly for reporting purposes;
 Any other duties as assigned in the retail operation, and may be asked to support other retail locations.


III. Qualifications
 Shift Lead staff must have a minimum of one year work experience in a large food service or commercial kitchen working a variety of food service duties.
 Shift Lead staff must have a minimum of twelve (12) months previous supervisory experience in a large food or commercial kitchen environment.
 Must be familiar with a commercial food service environment working with kitchen equipment and tools as well as health and safety standards.
 Must have the ability to read, understand and communicate in English at a level high enough to understand and comply with sanitation and safety procedures to prevent accidents and work place injuries, to meet customer service standards, and to follow and give supervisory directions to employees.
 Subject to wet floors, temperature extremes, excessive noises, and large commercial equipment. As an essential job function, worker is required to use cleaning and sanitizing chemicals.
 Regular attendance is required; this means reporting to work on time for scheduled shifts.
 Three incidents of absences or tardiness during contingent assignment are grounds for termination from temporary or casual assignment.
 Responsible for maintaining a positive and respectful work environment; therefore any acts of violence, threatening behavior, theft, sexual harassment, creating hostile work environment, physical or verbal abuse are immediate grounds for termination from temporary or casual assignment.
 Must complete I-9 employment eligibility paperwork before starting to work position.
 Must have a valid CA drivers license


IV. Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for prolonged periods, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items. Physical agility critical to perform essential job functions. Lift up to 25 lbs. Must have manual dexterity. Ability to work around hot equipment (stoves, grills, ovens) and environments.
