The Senior HR Manager is a strategic business partner for the Graduate
School of Business (GSB), and routinely engages with the local senior
leadership team on a wide range of organization related initiatives.
This position is responsible for the providing the full range of
day-to-day human resources services for specific client groups as
assigned by the Director of HR. The Senior HR Manager is a trusted
advisor and consultant to local leadership, managers and employees and
reports to the HR Director for the GSB.
The Senior HR Manager will provide:
•
high-level consulting and best practice advice to challenging and often
unique problems related to managing a complex organization;
• senior management level support and consulting to the leadership of the organization;
• work with a great deal of autonomy, independence and with minimal supervision;
• demonstrate good and sound judgment and decision making; and
• align personal goals with the organizations goals and objectives.
Job ResponsibilitiesCollaborate
closely with leadership, managers and employees to provide advice,
counsel and management of all aspects of the HR function including, but
not limited to: organizational development and change management,
employee relations; classification and compensation; recruitment and
retention; performance management and staff development; and HR
information systems. Know when to bring in more senior or experienced HR
staff and/or outside consultants as appropriate.
• Function as a
business partner with the organization’s leadership to include;
supporting GSB initiatives through a thorough understanding of the
vision, values, mission and/or unique business objectives, issues,
needs, key success factors and financial picture of the organization.
•
Participate in strategic planning and execution with senior leadership
and actively model and support positive management practices.
•
Partner with Performance Culture & Strategist in providing
consultation and sound advice in a wide range of OD, OE and other
strategic processes such as cultural, behavioral and organizational
change, talent management, succession planning, process improvements,
and workforce planning.
• Consult with leadership and senior staff
on organizational design and development, and provide organizational
analysis, needs assessments, interventions, programs, organizational
structure and/or span of control recommendations as needed or
requested.
• Initiate and collaborate in the development of GSB
related HR procedures and programs; implement and interpret Stanford
University HR policies, procedures, and programs.
• Manage area’s salary setting program.
• Represent GSB’s interests in university-wide venues. When appropriate, serve as a resource for other university HR offices.
• Support and lead higher level searches and advise on affirmative action objectives as needed.

Strong Human Resources knowledge and successful experience as a
consultant and advisor to management in the following areas:
organizational design, organizational effectiveness, employee relations,
conducting investigations, employment and labor law, compensation,
staffing and employment, training and development, performance coaching
and management, staff training and professional development.

Demonstrated understanding of HR programs and issues, particularly as
they apply to a diverse, complex, decentralized academic environment.
In-depth knowledge of (or ability to master) Stanford University HR
policies.

Education and Experience•
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Human Resources,
Business or Organization Development. Will consider other undergraduate
majors. Advanced degree and/or certification in Human Resources
desirable.
• 8 -10 plus years of progressive experience in Human
Resources positions. At least 7 of the minimum 8 should be in an exempt
client facing role such as a HR Manager.
• Experience in positions
requiring assessment of complex issues and sound judgments involving
personal and confidential matters.
• Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations.
• Ongoing professional development highly desired.
• Experience at Stanford University or in another academic environment highly preferred.
