Stanford Blood Center is seeking a Marketing and Graphic Design Specialist. Under the general direction of the Marketing & Communications Manager, and in accordance with Stanford Blood Center's (SBC) recruitment, marketing, and branding strategies, the Graphic Design and Marketing Specialist strategizes, designs, develops, implements, analyzes, and reports the results of SBC’s marketing activities. Works closely with Marketing & Communications and Recruitment personnel to develop campaigns that capture the attention of current and prospective blood donors, encouraging retention and increasing SBC visibility in the community. Creates creative, polished and professional designs for print, web, social media platforms, and local media, including fliers and posters, brochures, to reach current and prospective donors with little guidance. Ensures that blood drive publicity materials are completed on time, and provides guidance to interns or staff members learning design software to help make edits with little guidance. Supervises two full-time marketing employees handling events, donor promotions, public outreach, and center blood drives.

Job Duties:
• Contribute ideas for marketing campaigns and new recruitment strategies targeting new and existing blood donors; serve as a liaison between the Recruitment department and the Marketing & Communications department. Work closely with account representatives and blood drive coordinators to advertise and promote blood drives; produce customized publicity materials such as fliers, web landing pages, and mobile phone outreach.
• Design and create in-house graphic designs for promotional items and marketing collateral, such as t-shirts, publicity flyers, and donor communication e-mail templates; create graphics and design layouts for the website and social media sites. Modify photo and art files and perform color corrections, and ensure adherence to established branding guidelines. Coordinate the order and shipment of custom order signs, artwork, etc. Stay abreast of current industry trends, regulations, competitors, and current/new company products and services. Serve as a technical resource for other staff members, offering feedback and guidance on their development of marketing materials, and offering guidance on technical questions involving design software.
• Coordinate with the marketing & communications team on social media outreach, web content production, quality assurance, and operational tasks as needed. Support efforts to measure and report on the results of Stanford Blood Center’s marketing activities, including creation and management of donor surveys.
• Hires, supervises, motivates, evaluates, coaches, disciplines and generally manages the activities of marketing staff. Sets performance standards for assigned staff and assists them with establishing priorities and deadlines based on operational needs and organizational goals.
• Assist with execution of events for blood donors as needed. Backup other members of the Marketing & Communication department, providing copywriting and editorial support for social media, web content, ads, and other marketing materials. Help respond to customer service inquiries. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience - Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or a related field and three years’ experience in graphic design or marketing.

Knowledge and Skills - Must possess sound knowledge of creative design principles, as well as a thorough understanding of marketing theory and practice. Familiarity with all phases of production of material for print and electronic media. Ability to understand mobile and web technology applications and best practices, and commitment to keep abreast of emerging technologies. Proven success using design software essential. Proficiency in web design; basic HTML & CSS. Experience with blog design and development, and familiarity using social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. Must possess strong interpersonal skills, including effective communication skills and the ability to interact effectively at all levels and with a variety of groups and individuals. Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills; proven experience meeting or keeping ahead of deadlines and managing multiple projects and competing priorities. Self-starter able to handle projects with minimal direction. Supervisor or lead experience required.

Proficiency using MAC or Windows based graphic programs (Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Dreamweaver) and Microsoft Office preferred. Photography and video editing experience a plus. Candidates with previous experience in blood donor center marketing or operations, especially pertaining to donor recruitment, advertising, and promotions, preferred.

Other Relevant Information:
Will be required to comply with governmental regulations and University and Blood Center policy and strictly observe privacy and security related policies, procedures and practices to preserve the integrity and confidentiality of medical and other sensitive information pertaining to donors, patients, research subjects, and staff. Will be required to enter areas where other individuals work with human blood; potential may exist for unanticipated exposure to bloodborne pathogens by splash or spill.
