OB PURPOSE:

Under direct supervision, perform routine drafting and design assignments. Update and maintain all related drawings and databases.

CORE DUTIES:

  • Following established standards and procedures, design and prepare detailed electronic (CAD) working plans, charts, maps and/or scale drawings for routine projects from observation, measurements, sketches and/or specifications. Collect, manage, update and clean data.
  • Develop maps, reports, charts, graphs and tables for use by clients and for publication and presentation.
  • Make copies of drawings and maintain information regarding changes to database.
  • Perform field verification of conditions for purposes of making database and graphical updates.
  • Make basic computations to determine layout of charts, strength of material and requirements for structural design.
  • Work directly with facilities engineers and customers to create drawings and maps of university property and buildings.
  • Write routine menus, scripts and programs using CAD software.
  • Maintain and update standards and procedures manual.
  • Assist with testing and training business users on online map applications.

 

INIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Associate’s degree and two years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of relevant CAD and GIS software.
  • Proficient at MSWord, PowerPoint, Excel and Access.
  • Able to coordinate and execute small to medium design projects.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience reading and interpreting civil engineering and architectural drawings.
  • Possess mechanical aptitude with ability to complete basic mathematical calculations.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to use engineering blueprint copier, scanners, plotters and printers.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Valid California non-commercial class driver’s license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, stand/walk, sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.
  • Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), grasp forcefully; reach/work above shoulders, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 21-40 pounds.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class Driver's license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work outdoors: work at heights ≥ ten feet: field work may include working on uneven work surfaces, and/or around construction sites.
  • Frequent local travel.
  • Occasional business related overnight travel.
