Stanford Law School is currently seeking applications for two Associate Directors of Alumni Relations.

Reporting to the Director of Alumni Relations, the Associate Director works closely and collaboratively with alumni volunteers, donors, the dean, faculty, and other School and University staff to engage alumni, friends, and the broader community in the life of Stanford Law School. The Associate Director is responsible for identifying, recruiting, training, and stewarding volunteer leadership for assigned regional law chapters, 1st Year Reunion and/or Golden Gavel Society committees, alumni communities, and other engagement opportunities and services as assigned. The Associate Director will also cultivate faculty relationships, and assist with programming for the SLS Board of Visitors, Alumni Weekend, reunion classes, and regional chapters.

Responsibilities:
  •  In coordination with fellow Associate Director, develop effective training and engagement tools for alumni volunteers (on- and off-line).
  • Assist the Director to organize, plan, and staff volunteer training and recognition events.
  • In coordination with fellow Associate Director, manage quarterly reporting of department activity; continue to develop effective tools to track volunteers, assess level of engagement among volunteers, as well as the broader alumni population.
  • Work with Director, the fellow Associate Director, and Major Gift Officers to create innovative regional programming. Implement programs in regional law chapters. This may include occasional travel to Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Washington, D.C., or other domestic cities.
  • Recruit event hosts and speakers for regional programs and events.
  • Partner with the Reunion Team to manage programming and event details for reunion classes, including Alumni Weekend.
  • Assist the Director in developing, planning, and implementing programming for annual Board of Visitors meeting and conference calls, Alumni Weekend, and other volunteer focused events.
  • Help the Assistant Director manage internal logistics for Board of Visitors meeting, Alumni Weekend, and other major Stanford Law School events.
  • Develop, plan and implement meaningful opportunities for students and prospective students to network with alumni during Alumni Weekend, Board of Visitors, regional events, and other events.
  • Coordinate scripting and program/attendee backgrounds for Dean, faculty, senior staff, and alumni volunteers for programs and events as necessary.
  • Staff all major External Relations programs, and regional events as needed.
  • Manage relationship with Stanford Law School faculty. In partnership with fellow Associate Director, serve as liaison to faculty for all Stanford Law School and University programs.
  • In coordination with fellow Associate Director, organize monthly Faculty Forum for External Relations team to increase knowledge of faculty research and law school programs.
  • Provide dotted line supervision for Assistant Director and Alumni Relations Assistant for regional programs, special projects as needed, and during peak program activity.
  • In coordination with fellow Associate Director, develop, set priorities for, and maintain data collection, coding, and entry protocols for alumni activities and volunteer service. 
  • Draft communication and correspondence on behalf of Director, faculty, Associate Dean, and Dean as needed.
  • Additional special projects as assigned.


 

 

  • Three to five years of increasing responsibility in volunteer and program management in a university environment preferred.
  • Proven ability to plan, implement, and manage high-level events across a broad range of audiences.
  • Experience engaging and motivating others to accomplish goals with an understanding of the role volunteerism plays within an institutional advancement operation.
  • Self-starter who can work well as a member of a diverse team; must be enthusiastic, flexible, technically agile, graceful and effective under pressure, discreet, and diplomatic. 
  • Organized and efficient; ability to juggle tasks and priorities; attentive to details without losing sight of the big picture; creative problem solver.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to serve as an effective and persuasive representative of the Law School.
  • Outstanding customer service skills a must.
  • Energy, initiative, creativity, drive, and a sense of humor.
  • College degree required; JD or MBA preferred. 
  • Familiarity with Stanford systems is a plus; knowledge of database and spreadsheet applications required; knowledge of HTML a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends; willing and able to lift up to 35 pounds on occasion.
