Stanford Management Company
(SMC) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Analyst, Private
Equity. SMC, a division of Stanford University, was established in 1991, and is
responsible for managing the University’s $18 billion of endowment and trust
assets and temporarily invested expendable funds. The majority of the
University’s endowment assets are invested in a diversified portfolio of
actively managed financial and real estate assets, deployed through external
investment managers.
This position will report to the Managing Director
of Private Equity and support the Private Equity investment team in a variety of
analytic and investment management activities. The Analyst will research new
investments and conduct on-going analysis of the portfolio.
This is a 2
year fixed term position.
RESPONSIBILITIES • Support the Stanford
University Endowment Private Equity investment team in a variety of analytic and
investment management activities • Perform asset class/industry research and
portfolio level analysis in support of asset allocation, portfolio construction
and future investment commitments • Conduct valuation updates and monitor
performance for the existing Private Equity portfolios • Assist in due
diligence of potential investments (portfolio fit, performance track record,
fund structure) • Perform research and analysis of benchmarking and
comparative statistics • Complete ad hoc projects for the Private Equity
investment team as relates to overall management of the endowment • Assist in
the preparation of standard reports, memos and presentations to facilitate
communication and transparent to the Investment Committee
PROFILE The
ideal candidate would have the following background: • Bachelor's degree in
finance, business, or equivalent. • One to three years experience in
finance, investment banking, and/or investment management and a fundamental
understanding of investment principles and financial metrics • Strong
technical/quantitative skills with demonstrated ability to execute complex
financial analysis • Experience or demonstrated interest in private equity
sectors preferred • Ability to communicate effectively with senior management
and investment professionals • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
required • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as
on a collaborative basis as part of a team • Accuracy, attention to detail,
ability to multi-task, and organizational skills are essential • Excellent
judgment, high integrity and personal values consistent with the values
articulated by Stanford Management Company and Stanford University • A team
orientation and strong interest in supporting the Private Equity team and the
work of a university endowment
