TheDepartment of History in the School of Humanities and Sciences seeks anexperienced and energetic professional to fill the role of Student Services Specialist. The department is home to approximately 45 faculty, 100+ undergraduate majors, 100graduate students, and 6 staff members. Reporting to the DepartmentManager and the Student Services Manager, the Student Services Specialistprovides undergraduate student services and administrative support to thestudents and faculty in the Department of History.
TheStudent Services Specialist is the primary undergraduate program resource forcurrent and prospective majors and minors in the History Department. Under thegeneral supervision of the Student Services Manager, the Student Services Specialist’sresponsibilities include course scheduling, revising department publicationsand the Bulletin and the undergraduate degree program; as well as implementingdepartmental degree changes, maintaining all academic records and monitoringundergraduate student degree progress. The Student Services Specialistinterfaces with university offices on matters of student status including theOffice of Accessible Education, the Office of the Vice Provost forUndergraduate Education, the Center for Undergraduate Advising and Research,the School of Humanities and Sciences’ Office of Graduate and UndergraduateStudies, and the Office of the Registrar.
Required:
Four-year
college degree or equivalent
1-2
years student services experience
Excellent
oral and written communication skills
Proven
organizational and time management skills
Excellent
interpersonal customer service skills to interface with students, faculty,
and staff within the department and university
Able
to work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent
attention to detail, sound judgment, strong problem-solving skills, the
ability to deal with sensitive information, and to resolve problems and
complete complex tasks as necessary.
Must
be able to set priorities to manage and complete responsibilities in a
timely manner with a heavy workload that includes deadlines, many
interruptions and the need to balance priorities
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Desired:
Student services experience in the Stanford
environment
Understanding of the complex nature of a
university environment and the competing priorities of faculty
Proficiency with PeopleSoft, Axess, and
ReportMart
Experience collecting, analyzing, and
interpreting quantitative data
Ability to identify and define problems, and
apply policy in order to reach resolution; if no policy exists, make
recommendation.
